FISHING

The Kawartha Lakes, of which Stoney and Clear are members, is ranked in the top ten fishing destinations in Canada. Originally it was fishing that brought visitors to the lake. Although the 40+ lb. Lake Trout are gone, Stoney still has an abundance of both fish and advice on how and where to catch them. Primary species include: walleye, small mouth bass, large mouth bass, muskellunge, northern pike, lake whitefish, carp, rock bass, sunfish, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Boats can be rented at resorts around the lake or, if you bring your own boat, public boat launches are also available. A word of warning. Stoney Lake comes by its name honestly so boat with caution and consult the charts if you unsure of what's under your keel. This is especially true after dark.
